The 2nd ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction finished on a high note with the announcement of the winners in this year’s ABU Awards for Climate Change and DRR in Krabi, Thailand. The Award Ceremony was preceded by a colourful spectacle based on an old Thai legend. After the show and a moment of suspense, Mr Anothai Udomsilp, Director of the Academic Institute of Thai PBS and host of the Summit appeared on stage in regal attire to announce the winners. For the Best Programme on Climate Change the award went to Whispers Of Warming, produced by Mr Anoop Khajuria, DD, India. This is a compelling story about the life of people in the Himalayas who are on the frontline of climate change.
The Award for Best Programme on Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction was given to Together We Can Do It, BBC Media Action, Bangladesh. The producer Shihan Zuberi, conveys an optimistic view on the power of community working together to prepare for future disasters.
Ms Darin Klong – UkKara, Thai PBS, Thailand, won the Award for Most Promising Newcomer for Wave of Change, Tsunami Lessons from Three Countries.
The Award for Best Human Story went to the producer of Mission Arctic, NRK, Norway, Havard Gulldahl. The documentary follows the epic trek of four teenagers to the North Pole to see first-hand the consequences of climate change.
